Waynesville, James "Jimmy" R. Parton, Jr., age 50, of Leatherwood Street, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at his home.

He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of Ernestine Osborne Parton and the late James R. Parton. He was a Deputy Sheriff with the Haywood County Sheriff's Office, serving as Jailer, Road Deputy, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Chief Deputy and Court Bailiff until retiring in 2010 with 30 years of service. He was a member of East Waynesville Baptist Church, served on the board of directors for KARE and as chairman for two years. Jimmy was a strong advocate for children and was also past president of the Waynesville Lions Club, member of F.O.P., member of Smoky Mountain Narcotics Unit, a little league coach. Jimmy loved the outdoors, his fish pond and his dog "Dixie".

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 28 years, Donna Hooper Parton, one son, Josh Parton, one daughter, Jordan Parton; one sister, Daleene "Dee" Parton and a brother, Patrick "Pat" Parton, all of Waynesville.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2012 at East Waynesville Baptist Church. Reverend Billy Ferguson will officiate. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Haywood County Sheriff's Office. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Greg Christopher, Dudley Tatham, Jeff Teague, Larry Brow, Gene Sizemore, Cody Rhinehart, Alex Robb, Kevin Williamson, Tom Alexander, Lavern Phillips and members of Haywood County Law Enforcement. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
