Joel Grant Burnette Jan 21, 2014   1961 — 2014 OAK ISLAND — Joel Grant Burnette, 52, passed away peacefully at his home Jan. 15, 2014 after a courageous battle with diabetes. He was an electrical contractor and went to the North Carolina coast to help restore power after Hurricane Hugo and stayed. Born Aug. 19, 1961 in Waynesville, Grant was the son of Ulus and Jean Burnette. Grant loved his family, helping neighbors and friends, setting up for worship services on the beach and fishing. He was preceded in death by a son, Tristan. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two daughters, Yvette and Rhiannon, and a son, Joel; brothers, Christopher and Forrest; and a special niece and nephew, Olivia and Jacob. A celebration of his life will be held in the spring on the beach of Oak Island with family, friends, and neighbors.
