This is written in honor and as a memorial to Gerald Alex Price, a student of the Class of 1979 at Tuscola High School.  Gerald loved his school, his teachers and his fellow classmates and would have been proud to have graduated with them in May.  However as God would have it, Gerald departed this life on March 29, 1979 after a very brief illness.

Gerald was a sincere, kind and considerate person and was alway concerned about his fellow man.  He was the best son a parent could ask for, the very gentlest brother and a very good friend.  Gerald also loved  to laugh---not a loud laugh, but a soft, deep laugh which could be felt by those around.  Gerald also loved to make others laugh with his witty remarks and jokes.

Gerald love life so much and never failed to see the goodness, beauty, and happiness therein---the goodness felt from a prayer, the beauty seen in a dogwood bloom and the happiness felt from a child's squeal of delight.

Gerald had an undying faith in God.  In his last days, he at no time felt that God had forsaken him or left him and he at not time felt bitter nor questioned God.  He at all times felt God was his very closest friend and trusted fully in him until the end..

Gerald has left a loneliness in the hearts of all who loved him; but in place of this emptiness, he has left many good things---hope, kindness, faith, some very beautiful and precious memories and most of all, love.  Gerald's life was short, but full of goodness. He departed this life having learned the ultimate secret of life---that it is more blessed to give than to receive for it is only in this giving that we are able to receive.  We appreciate the life Gerald lived and for his having graciously given to us.

A PROFILE OF COURAGE

Faced with adversity in the form of incurable cancer, Gerald exhibited uncommon courage.  Unwilling to sink in the quicksands of self-pity and defeat, he continued his senior year in the school's Homebound Program, harvested and sold his tobacco croup and even doctored a sick calf.  Throughout his private battle, Gerald remained optimistic about returning to the regular classroom, especially to his favorite course in bricklaying.  Meanwhile, he worked diligently at home on his academic subjects. Gerald subsequently completed shortly before his death all graduation requirements---a remarkable achievement under difficult conditions.  Thus, while we morn his passing, we revere his memory and his labors.
